Did you know that dizziness may be a migraine symptom? Or that it’s a very common side effect of medication? Or that different types of dizziness can be attributed to an inner ear problem?

When any part of the system that keeps you balanced is out of whack, you may feel dizzy.

No matter the cause, the symptoms of dizziness can be debilitating. Learning how to ease dizziness or what medication for dizziness, if any, is available can help you deal with it when it hits you.

Making a recovery from dizziness requires knowing when it’s coming and what to do. Keep reading to learn the causes of dizziness and how to know when to head to an urgent care facility.

1. Dehydration

Keeping yourself hydrated has many health benefits but dehydration is also a common cause of dizziness. Dehydration can cause a drop in your blood pressure and a lack of oxygen to the brain leading to dizziness.

2. Low Blood Sugar

Do you ever skip a meal or miss one because you’re busy? Do you get that light-headed feeling? Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia might be the culprit. When you experience low blood pressure it can cause extreme dizziness.

3. Ear Infection

When you are dealing with an ear or sinus infection, it can put you off balance and you’ll end up with dizziness problems.

4. Severe Anxiety

Do you deal with anxiety issues? When your anxiety presents itself in a way with which you are not equipped to handle it, it’s possible for your body to go into fits of dizziness.

The area of your brain that makes you anxious interacts with the area that makes you dizzy. So sometimes, people are anxious about getting dizzy or they get dizzy because they are anxious.

5. Migraine

Many people who suffer from migraines also experience severe dizziness as a symptom. It can last for a few minutes up to a few days.

When Should You Seek Urgent Care?

If you experience dizziness, how do you know when to go to urgent care?

As a rule, if the dizziness is continual, keeps coming back, or is accompanied by other symptoms, you should seek medical attention. Some of the symptoms to look for include the following:

  • nausea
  • severe headache
  • hearing loss
  • change in vision
  • difficulty speaking
  • numbness in your limbs or face

If you make some changes with your diet or other lifestyle changes without success, it’s time to visit an urgent care facility.

Can You Control the Causes of Dizziness?

Now that you know the causes of dizziness, can you do anything to control, avoid, or stop it? Dealing with dizziness is no joke and learning the ways to deal with it can help you get through sudden dizzy spells.
